Awkward...&More Awkward...

I know it isn't Awkward&Awesome Thursday...but this post isn't about awesomeness.
It's just about awkwardness!
An art that I, and some of my very dear friends, *cough*DANIELLE*cough*, have mastered!
You should hear some of the things that come out of our mouths...
Or actually, be thankful you don't have to.
You know what I mean.
You're talking to someone, you say something just randomly as a joke or not thinking it's a big deal, and their reaction is possibly, "Um...what?" or "WOW.  Where did that come from...?"
Oh those awkward dots...
I really love them though...
Ok, so anyways, how do you even back your way out of a sitch like that?
Sometimes you just have to stick to your original statement or risk looking more lame by changing your stance on an issue.
Or, if you're like me, you get all giggly and say, "hahahaha I'm just kidding...it was a joke...hahahaha".
Which, seriously, is 1) Annoying and 2) Doesn't make anything less awkward.
But laughing has always been my coping mechanism.
I'm like Claire from Modern Family when she is telling her son that his old friend passed away and she can't stop smiling like a maniac.
I think laughter just breaks some of the tension for me.
My other favorite way of getting out of an uncomfortable situation:

You just have to be confident in who you are and not care what others think.
Easier said than done, but that's the goal.
I think Dr. Seuss said it best with, "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
If you haven't figured by now, I normally write things that happen in my life that the average person can relate to.
So, hopefully you all can relate to awkwardness on some level.
I always say I love awkward moments as long as I'm not involved, so let me hear some of your favorite awkward moments! :)
Off to spin class I die go!

Random Saturday

Today didn't exactly go how I expected.
Don't you hate it when you get this idea in your head about how the day will be and then you end up cleaning the house and watching 5 episodes of Giuliana&Bill?!
Actually, now that I think about it, that sounds like a pretty good day to me.
LOVE me some G&B!
But anyways, it's days like these that I have to think about things I love.
Music, running, fashion, finding healthy recipes...that's what my evening has consisted of.
So, I just thought I would share a few of my faves with you!

1. Lana Del Rey's new album Born To Die...

It is so original and her voice is amazing.
Now, her lyrics are risque´ and there is an occasional random curse word thrown in there; however, I'm willing to look past that because she is so talented.

2. This picture of Audrey Hepburn...

I just love her and the quote is so cute.
This is currently the background on my Mac.
Such a great reminder that you are important too!

3. Morning Star Spicy Black Bean Burgers...

Ok...before you think I'm crazy and that sounds gross...it's SO good!
I normally just put a little salsa on them.
Like I said in an earlier post, I'm trying to eat less meat and dairy so these are perfect.
Yes, a veggie burger, but the most delicious veggie burger of all time!

4. Girls in White Dresses

I actually haven't read it yet, but my friend told me about it and I really want to get this book!
We both agree that it basically sounds like the "story of our lives".
Have any of you read it?

5. Good Home Co. Vacuum Beads

I bought these a while ago and every time I vacuum {which, let's be honest, isn't too often} I'm reminded how much I love these things!
You just toss about 20 of the little beads into the vacuum and as you clean it scents the room.
Brilliant!

Well, that's just a little look inside my evening.
Super exciting stuff for sure!
Hopefully you had enough fun tonight for the both of us.

;)

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

Alright alright alright, it's Thursday night!
Fridays make me so happy!
I had to work late tonight so I'm getting this post in just in time.
So, here is this weeks A&A...

Awkward:
- Wearing heels the day after boot camp at the gym...wobbly legs!
- My spin teacher doesn't know my name or the names of the girls I go to class with, but he has nicknamed us "The Troublemakers."  That can't be good.
- When a sales guy at American Eagle comments, "Man, you come in here a lot!"  Gosh, I'm just trying to find the perfect pair of jeans...don't have to call me out on my shopping addiction, dude!
- When you're talking to someone on office chat at work and he makes you laugh out loud...very loud...and then you realize everyone around you thinks you're laughing at nothing and you're officially nuts.

Awesome:
- Hunter Hayes' song "Wanted".  Seriously, has there ever been a sweeter song sung by such a young kid? Well, besides the Biebs, of course. ;)
- Spending Fathers Day with some friends and my adopted Virginia family at the lake.

Debby is the mom and such an incredibly fun person!
We kayaked for a while and named ourself the "Kayak Coastguard."
Our motto was: "If you need help fast, you probably need to get someone else."
Hahaha!
It was such a fun day.

- My best friend, Danielle, got a teaching job!  The sucky part is she will be moving home to NC.  SAD FACE!!  But it's only 2 1/2 hours away and we've already decided our relationship is strong enough to handle long distance!
- This someecard...

Haha gets me every time!

- Today is my brother and sister-in-law's 8th anniversary!

Me and Aaron at his wedding {he just changed to get on the plane}.
He's such a great big brotha!

Tell me about some of your awkward and awesome moments this past week!
Since it's almost midnight and I have to get up at 6 I should probably be heading to bed.
I hope your weekend is amazeballs!

What Up, Wednesday

Today, my dear friend Ana informed me that she has never had a toasted pop tart.
Can you imagine?!
I hate cold pop tarts.
It's like eating celery.
Pointless.
I haven't eaten a pop tart in years because, let's be honest, they're not that good, but when she said "s'mores pop tart" I just imagined the gooey chocolate and the perfectly toasted pastry crust.
Then she said she was eating it not toasted...this is the only way I can think to sum up my feelings about that.

Anyway, I got a few messages, comments, and texts about my post yesterday.
My friend Alex texted me and said, "I wish it was the 50's still where boys tell you straight up if they are talking to you because they're interested in you.  They didn't waste time back then!"
Haha Well said!

I'm happy that times have changed in some areas, but their outfits were killer back then!
Speaking of the 50's, have you been watching Dallas?!
{I know the original show ran in the 80's and not the 50's, but that was the only way I could think to segue into my next topic}
Anyways, I really like it!
Just what I need, another show to watch...
But I figured since I'm not watching The Bachelorette this season {snooze fest} I should fill that time with another show.
It all makes sense in my mind!
Well, I hope you all had an excellent Wednesday!
I'm going to the gym for some boot camp fun, so I should probably get out of bed...

Dear Boys

Dear Boys,

I know you probably already think the world of yourselves, but, just so you know, we think you're attractive.  We might roll our eyes, but we think it's cute that you act like you're so strong.  We like it when you give us attention.  We get excited when you text us to just say hi.  Sometimes just that smile is enough to make us start sending out wedding invites {ok, maybe not that crazy...} What we don't like is when you talk to us all day Friday and then treat us like we have the plague on Monday.  Seriously, what is that?!  It makes us feel like we look like this when we talk to you...

I know us girls overanalyze every single thing, and I'm sure that's annoying, but it really messes with our heads when you ignore us.  You want to play hard to get?  Fine.  We'll play harder.

Game On,
Girls

Monday Confessions

So, my bloggy friend, Tara, {AKA A Geek Saga, and former Lynchburger like me...or is it Lynchburgian?} has been doing Monday Confessions every...um...Monday, obviously.
I decided to join in on the fun this week!
I thought it would be really fun to just share some randomness.

I confess...that for someone who thinks she can't cook, I just made some amazing honey-soy boiled salmon!

I confess...I have always been a little boy crazy.  In college, to differentiate my guy friends named Rob, I called them "Hot Rob", "Cute Rob" and "Funny Rob" to my girlfriends.  Some people call me a little crazy and to that, I say thank you!

I confess...I keep saying I need to delete my Facebook because it just sucks up time that I could be doing something else.  And yet, I haven't deleted it and continue to spend time on it.  Self control has never been my strong suit.

I confess...I LOVE texting!  A lot of my friends say, "You could have a 5 minute conversation on the phone as opposed to a 30 minute text session."  But to me, that's 25 extra minutes of exclamation marks and smiley faces that I can be sending while doing other things too...multitasking if you will.

I confess...Even though I miss my family SO incredibly much, I can't picture myself moving back to Alaska.  Of course, the possibility is always open, but I intend on traveling during and after grad school as much as possible and then moving to a big city for a while and having adventure after adventure!
Of course, one of those adventures will be eloping to Hawaii!

Sigh, what I wouldn't give to be back there right now!
Well, that should be enough confessions for today.
I'm off to enjoy some salmon and an evening run!
Happy Monday, friends!

Daddy

Happy Father's Day!

I was sad that I couldn't be with my dad today.
That's one thing that stinks about being so far away from home.
I know my family is always a phone call away, but it feels like there's always something missing.
Or, at least, I'm missing out on all the family fun!
I did talk to my dad today and tell him I love him and miss him.
That's all a father really needs, right?
;)
I hope you all had a great day whether you spent it with your father or not.
I spent my day at the lake with an amazing family whom I love.
And now, I am getting into bed and crashing hardcore!
Till next time, friends.

Recipes

I've never prided myself in my cooking abilities.
Baking?
Sure!
I can make some awesome desserts, but that is zero help when it comes to eating healthy.
I'm definitely over the "I guess since I'm eating healthy I'll eat plain chicken with a side of broccoli."
Surely there have to be meals that are delicious and nutritious!
Haha I hate that phrase, but it's true.
I'm lactose intolerant, so I'm trying to stay away from dairy and I don't eat a lot of red meat either.
I have never followed the dairy free diet, but I am always having stomach problems so it's time to stop being a dumbdumb and treat my body better!
So, here is where you come in.
I would L.O.V.E. it if you would help a sista out and throw me a recipe or 2!
I'll even post it on here and give credit to you for the wonderful meal.
;)
Ready......
GO!

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

Hello loves.
I have missed A&A Thursday's a lot lately which is sad!
I thoroughly enjoy writing them.
Mostly because my day is full of both awkward and awesome moments.
So, here it goes...

Awkward:
Shalie and I hung out last night.  That's not the awkward part...this is:
Shalie: "Lindsey, when you write your blog you write just how you talk.  You're so witty."
Lindsey: "Aw you think I'm witty!?"
S: "Yeah!"
L: "Well, thanks!  I'm going to blog about how you think my blog is witty..."
S: "Umm...ok."
Haha She is my favorite!

- Sleeping through your alarm, jumping out of bed 20 minutes before you're supposed to leave for work, and then trying to pretend the greasy, messy hair look is "in".  It isn't.

- Listening to comedians through my headphones at work.  I laugh at everything, but get me in a situation where I'm not supposed to be loud {i.e. work, church, meetings...} and I can't control myself.  My team will just be sitting in silence doing our work and all of a sudden Jim Gaffigan says, "Putting bacon in a salad is like panning for gold.  The bacon is all you really want."  I lose it and everyone thinks I'm the crazy girl who randomly laughs.

Awesome:
- Shalie's puppy, Mia.
Every time I see her I contemplate stealing her.

-I found this Trash the Dress photo by Verve Photo Co.

Gorgeous!
I went to their blog and it is amazing.
If for some reason I don't end up eloping {which is my plan} I will be enlisting them for my wedding photos.

- Now that I have a job that will pay for my masters, my mind is filling with endless possibilities.  I've started a list of places I want to travel to {this one requires quite a bit of saving too}.  I'm researching which fields need more employees and which ones are shrinking.  I'm imagining where I'll go after school, where I'll live, where I'll meet a man, where my kids will grow up...it's all very exciting!  The world is my oyster!

Haha This is so cheesy, but cute!

- Getting to hold one of my good friends baby for the first time.

Madison Elisabeth...I love her!

It's rare that I have more awesome moments in my life that awkward.
I guess these are the times to be thankful for that!
Anywho, I'm off to spend time with my girl Kat and her lovely momma.

Tattoos: Skanky Vs. Sexy

I have heard a lot of different opinions about girls with tattoos.
Some people say they're pretty darn slutty, while other say they can be beautiful.
Well, I happen to think it's just the tattoo itself and the placement that can make it somewhat inappropriate.
I've been wanting a tattoo for a while now and I recently have been finding so many gorgeous ideas.
Some of these pictures are of huge tattoos, which I love, but probably won't get for a few different reasons.
However, I am pretty sure I will be getting a few smaller ones!
Here are a few of the inspirations I've found...

If I were really gutsy, I would go for this.
I'm in love with the detail and shadowing.

This lacey look is so so pretty!
I'm trying to think of a more delicate placement for it because I'm in love with the idea, but don't want it all over my arm.
But I love how even if a sleeveless dress is worn it is still pretty.

Yes, I know a little cross tattoo is cliche'.
But I love the placement of this one.
I think the inside of the ankle is such a pretty spot and it's small enough that if it hurts like crazy I can pull myself together for long enough to at least get that tiny of a tattoo!
I'm also in love with this girls blog and style.

Another tattoo idea I'm loving is something along the lines of "beauty for ashes."
This song has a line that says, "I'll trade these ashes in for beauty" and that's exactly what I've done.

I am contemplating just the phrase Beauty For Ashes written in cursivey letters on my side {rib cage} or perhaps something more elaborate.
The verse Isaiah 61:3 has a part that says, "To give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of despair."
Well...maybe I'll just keep it short! haha
Just a good reminder of how far God has brought me.
There's my little sermon mixed into my post. ;)
That's just something that's been on my mind lately.
I hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday and a fantastic almost weekend!

Too Many Pictures

So, my excuse for the long absence is that my mom was here and we were too busy eating and shopping to do much of anything else.
Below, I have compiled some pictures of purchases and yummy food.

As soon as I saw these I HAD to buy them!

The Melting Pot
No explanation needed.

Mood Mustaches
I was almost tempted to buy these...

Chocolate Caramel Cookie with Sea Salt

I only go to Charlottesville a couple times a year, but when I do I always top by Cappellino's.
MUST learn how to make these

Also from Cappellino's
Ande's Mint Cupcake and Hummingbird with Honey Buttercream.
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR these were good!

The mom and I at Olive Garden.

Just doing a little shopping...

I also bought an amazing high low skirt from Urban Outfitters.
It will be making an appearance on the blog soon.
And I finally got some decorations up in my cubicle.
I will take pics tomorrow.
It's not super exciting, but I'm happy with it for now!
I promise my next post will have more substance to it, but this is honestly what I've been up to for the past week!
Now, I'm ready to relax a little...hope you are too!

XOXO
